Yoga for a Healthy Mind and Body

May 27th, 2016

9:00am - 4:00pm

“This program has been approved for 5.5 general contact hour(s) of continuing education credit by the National Association of Social Workers—Louisiana Chapter as authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners.”

Social workers are the most significant source of mental health counseling in the U.S. As secondary witnesses of other people’s trauma social workers are at high risk to develop secondary traumatic stress (STS). STS may challenge the social worker’s ability to provide services and maintain personal and professional relationships; the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics addresses this possible vulnerability by mandating social workers to maintain their own physical and psychological health in order to fulfill their responsibilities to clients and themselves. Research provides evidence to suggest that yoga can be used as an effective intervention for a variety of problems associated descriptive features characteristic of individuals affected by STS.

 What you will learn:

After covering the history of yoga and its physiological affects you will learn how conscious breathing and focus can open the door to yoga’s many benefits improving physical and mental health.
